- Annotation: The article is devoted to the main activities of the workers’ supply department of the plant no. 176 named after Dzerzhinsky, also known as Murom Locomotive Works. The author set out to analyse the activities of the workers’ supply department and identify the successes and shortcomings in its work, as well as to show the importance of this structure for the plant’s performance of production tasks. The article is based on a set of historical sources stored in the State Archive of Vladimir Region. The economic fund of the plant, the documentation of the Communist Party organisation of the enterprise and Murom city committee of the Bolshevik Party were used. When the USSR had to take part in the World War II, the plant no. 176 was transferred from the production of peaceful products to the manufacture of armoured vehicles and ammunition, and therefore belonged to strategically important industrial facilities. The activities of the said enterprise in providing the front with the necessary products, were generally effective, and it was marked by appropriate awards, with an important success factor consisting in the activities of the workers’ supply department, which, as the article showed, is an example of generally satisfactory work, despite the numerous difficulties that were to be overcome during the war years.
