- Annotation: Based on archival documents introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, the article examines the process of creating and operating a network of Museum Houses in Nizhny Novgorod Province in the first year after the revolution. The authors analyse administrative and financial mechanisms, personnel policy, logistical support and the main areas of activity of provincial and local museums. It is concluded that Museum houses had become a key element of the extracurricular education system, performing not only educational, but also socio-organisational functions in the context of the civil war and economic devastation. The activities of Nizhny Novgorod Gubernatorial District demonstrate the pragmatic approach of the new government to heritage and education, aimed at organising ideological and cultural influence on the masses as soon as possible.
