- Annotation: The article examines neologisms containing the element “télé” in the social sphere from the late twentieth to the early 21st century, as attested in contemporary French print media. The corpus consists of mass-circulation French newspapers aimed at a broad readership. We offer a detailed analysis of neologisms that emerged in France at the turn of the century and contain the element “télé” – borrowed from Greek “têle”, ‘far, at a distance’, adapted orthographically in French. Four types of formations are identified according to sectors within the social sphere: (1) public services/service provision; (2) education; (3) healthcare; and (4) banking services. The neologisms are analysed in terms of their lexical and etymological meanings, as well as morphological and grammatical properties. Each type is formed by prefixing “télé” – used as a domestic alternative to the anglicism online, signaling remote or distance-based modality – to a full verb base, a full noun base, or to a past participle used attributively. The study expands the existing knowledge base on neologisms that have arisen in the language of French print media.
