Annotation: This historiographical review presents the history of the scientific recognition of the topic of girlhood as a stage of the female life cycle in Russian historiography, beginning from the introduction of the concept of “girlhood subculture” into scientific circulation. It was with the introduction of this term into circulation in 1989 that they undertook, a review of which is currently being done in this area of historical anthropology. The review presents publications by historians and ethnographers, sociologists and psychologists, cultural scientists and legal scholars, since the research of the last thirty years is interdisciplinary in nature and is important for analysts from different humanities disciplines. Having paid attention to a considerable number of works that in one way or another touched on girlhood and its culture, the authors identified a lack of comprehensive research and the rarity of turning to ego-documents as a primary source. Their general conclusion is that the necessary basis is now being created for the development of the direction “anthropology of Russian girlhood”, which can successfully develop if researchers take into account the approaches and experience of not only Russian but also foreign research – both retrospectively and taking into account modern realities.
