- Annotation: The article examines the motifs of Nikolay Nekrasov in the poetry and prose by Alexander Ertel, assesses the role of the democratic poet’s work in the development of Ertel’s talent and his understanding of the fate of the people and the path of Russia. The scientific work has introduced Ertel’s early poetic experiments into scientific circulation for the first time – his poem “Night in the Hayfield, on the Volga Bank”, which has not yet been published, and it has been analysed for the first time by the author of the work. An analysis of the most striking references to Nekrasov and his heroes found in Ertel’s work, is presented, critical moments of disagreement between the writers in their views on the people, the Russian peasant and the embodiment of the image of the peasantry in poetry and prose are noted.
