Annotation: The complexity and versatility of concessive semantics lead to the division of complex sentences of the concessive type into several types, taking into account the specific concession meaning. The article considers two relatively frequent types of concessive sentences – proper-concessive and accessory-concessive. The distinction between these types is based on structural-semantic features, to which the author refers the means of communication and the order of predicative parts of a complex sentence; the possibility of replacing the means of communication with a typical concessive conjunction; narrow and broad context. Numerous examples from scientific and journalistic texts show the structural-semantic features of complex sentences, which help to distinguish between proper-concessive and accessory-concessive relations in the context of a sentence.
Keywords: concessive meaning, subordinate conjunction, subordinate clause, modification of meaning, contradiction, additional shade.
