- Annotation: The subject of the study is the training, deployment and use of reserve and reserve troops during the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905. The article briefly examines the conditions of the outbreak of war with Japan, within the framework of which the troops of the region Qingdao, as well as the Siberian and the Amur military districts were mobilised. The article analyses the significance of the partial mobilisation plan, which did not provide for the use of personnel from Western military districts at the initial stage of the campaign, which had become a significant factor in the unsuccessful course of the war for the Russian army. It is concluded that the combination of shortcomings in the planning and use of mobilisation resources in combat operations were among the important factors in Russia’s defeat in the conflict in the Far East.
