- Annotation: The material of the answers of Professor Nikolay Pokrovskiy to the questions of the first part of the «Programme for the Collection of Peculiarities of Folkish Vocabularies», which was published by the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Imperial Academy of Sciences and was unofficially named after Aleksey Shakhmatov, is analysed in the article; phonetics and grammar of the patois of the district of Krasnoye village near Kostroma (Kostroma Province) are described there. Similar studies of other patois of this province – south of the Volga River (Fyodor Pokrovskiy, Nikolay Sokolov) and Kostroma lowlands (Nikolay Vinogradov, S. Yeryomin) – according to this Programme and at about the same time, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, were also undertaken in the context of Moscow Dialectological Commission, which is commented on in this essay in comparative terms. The article contains preliminary information about the biography and scientific activity of Nikolay Pokrovskiy and a detailed analysis of the linguogeographical character of his observations in the field of vowels, consonants, on the peculiarities of stress (accent), declension of nouns and conjugation of verbs, which were in the patois of his small homeland, familiar to him from childhood. It can be said as a conclusion that the patois of the district of Krasnoye village basically coincide with the rest of Kostroma patois in the said features, with a number of differences emerging transitivity into the Central Russian patois.
