- Annotation: The subject of this article is museums and museum exhibitions dedicated to the participation of residents of Nizhny Novgorod (Soviet name – Gorky) in “hot spot” military conflicts of the 2nd half of the 20th century and the early 21st century, as a form of preserving and transmitting collective historical memory. The topicality is due to the lack of comprehensive research on the museumification of memory about such conflicts at the regional level, particularly in Nizhny Novgorod Region. The novelty of this article lies in the first attempt to systematise and analyse this phenomenon in a regional context. The article consists of two main sections – the first section examines the historical and sociocultural background of the formation of a network of “undeclared wars” museums in the region, while the second section analyses their current state, thematic specifics, and commemoration practices. In conclusion, the authors conclude that “undeclared wars” museums in Nizhny Novgorod Region, often initiated by veterans of such wars and the public, play an important role in the patriotic upbringing of young people and the preservation of memory about such complicated conflicts as a significant part of the historical experience of recent decades.
