- Annotation: The author of the article pays the main attention at the attitude of the great Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa to the problems of theory of literature. the main of which is that of the genre belonging of the poetical cycle “Message” seen by Pessoa as the modern epic. The author investigates different theories of the genre of the “Message”, analyses its connection with Camões tradition, refers to the other Pessoa’s attempts of creation of the epic and comes to the conclusion that the “Message” is a poetical cycle rather than a poem. The second theoretical problem connected with Pessoa’s poetry is the problem of heteronymy. Unfortunately both creation of the epic poetical cycles and heteronomy had no continuation in world literature. Pessoa left the papers about theory of literature, and the article analyses their main problematics: the notes on the problem of genius, on Shakespeare, on Dickens, on theory of translation. The author also deals with the theory of sensationism- invented by Pessoa literary trend.
