- Annotation: This article examines the specifics of the use of one-member compound verb definite-personal sentences in a satirical text by Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin. Structural and semantic analysis of various compositional and speech structures of the author’s tale artistic text, which contains definite-personal sentences, is carried out. During the analysis, attention is drawn to the semantic and structural features of the main member of a one-member compound sentence. It is revealed that among the satiric techniques of e in Saltykov-Shchedrin’s tale, there is the use of a variety of syntactic constructions that represent definite-personal sentences. Their use is related to the compositional features of artistic texts and the writer’s intention. Definite-personal sentences are used in both dialogical and monologue speech. The frequency of their use depends on the specifics of the text structure. Definite-personal suggestions enliven the narrative, giving dynamics and laconism to the text. The properties of these syntactic constructions include those which bring the tale language closer to the conversational style of the genre. The results of the study complement the information about the specifics of the language of Saltykov-Shchedrin’s texts. The principles of sentence analysis used, can be applied when studying the texts of different authors.
