- Annotation: In this article, the author analyses the development of Russian historiography dedicated to the study of the mentality of peasants. The article examines the penetration of the foreign scientific term “mentality” into the Russian scientific and historical environment and its association with similar meanings in the Russian language. The author attempts to find common approaches to the study of the mentality of Russian peasants in the early 20th century. The article classifies the works studied according to the periods when leading historians of the said country addressed that issue. As a result of this research, the author formulates the main achievements of the Russian scientific school in this field.
