Annotation: The author of the review offers a critical overview of a book by Pskov scholars, which is the result of a comprehensive study of the concept of “The 19th-century Pskov travelogue”. Each part of the book is analysed from the perspective of key aspects. The compilation of a set of texts about Pskov Province in the 19th century, united by the genre of travel essays, is noted for its argumentation and logical consistency. The research part of the book is considered in detail. The main vectors of the section dedicated to the specifics of Pskov travelogue – “from a meaningful mosaic to a holistic image of the territorial and cultural space” – are analysed with an emphasis on Pskov antiquities and the water spaces of the region. To do this, we use fragments of the texts by Konstantin Arsen’yev and Pavel Yakushkin. Special attention is paid to a voluminous linguistic and ethnographic commentary, which is considered in the context of several storylines. An undoubted advantage of the reviewed book is its scientific apparatus, which includes indexes of names, settlements, and water bodies found in the text, as well as illustrations such as maps and diagrams of Pskov Province, lithographs and postcards from the 19th century, photographs from the early 20th century, and modern photographs.
