Annotation: The article discusses the term “literary biopic” and provides arguments in favour of this term against the term “biography”. The article provides examples of literary biopics – the story “In Upper Maslovka Street” and the short story “Porcelain Entertainments” by Dina Rubina. Both texts are about female sculptors. Their names have been changed in the literary texts, but the reader can identify the real prototypes – Nina Niss-Goldman and Asta Brzezicka – using “hints” from the paratext in one case and the semantics of the scene in the other. Rubina’s texts have become full-fledged biographies of these two artists. From now on, these texts are sources for those writing about these artists, which indicates the important role of the biopic. Experimenting with the biopic genre, the French writer Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt shows how the same facts from the life of a famous person can be interpreted in a way that is far from reality. An example of such experimentation is the story “Living All Three”, whose artistic optics are focused on the birth process of a biopic, and the example from the novel “Another Life” shows two different biographies – the real one (which happened) and a possible one (which could have developed) of one historical person. The author of the article introduces contextual terms into his analysis: biopic – to denote a literary and artistic biographical narrative, the prototype of the hero of which is a real historical figure; Homo creator – a type of creative personality (a person of art).
