Annotation: This article offers a comprehensive analysis of the visual-verbal strategies employed by artist and poet Vladimir Mayakovsky to highlight key propaganda themes of early autumn 1920: the advance of Pyotr Wrangel’s army, the fuel crisis, devastation, cold, famine, and the need for labour mobilisation – exemplified by ROSTA Window No. 304, “The Cold Is Coming.” The study examines the interplay between poetic text, visual imagery, and political context, including Vladimir Lenin’s speeches, Pravda publications, and the objectives of the Communist Party propaganda. It demonstrates that Window No. 304 represents a concentrated synthesis of the month’s agitational motifs, serving as a unique example of the fusion of satire, slogan, and image within the agit-prop poster genre. Special attention is paid to the symbolic construction of the enemy (including “Cold” and P. Wrangel), typification of characters, the role of slogans, and the distinctive authorial intonation of V. Mayakovsky as a multifaceted artist, poet, and agitator.
