- Annotation: In the article, author, on the basis of generalisation, analytical procedures, examines the stage nature of the early plays by Alexander Ostrovsky. Traditionally, since Soviet times, Ostrovsky’s works of the 1840s and 1850s belong to the so-called “Muscovite period”, determined, according to a number of scientists, by the soil-orientted ideology. The author of this article considers early works by Alexander Ostrovsky primarily as an artistic and theatrical phenomenon. Possible sources of Ostrovsky’s interest in the theatrical culture are revealed. Further, it is established what role the meeting and creative communication with Dmitriy Gorev (Tarasenkov) in the formation of Ostrovsky’s dramatic gift in the 1840s, before the events related to the publication of the play “It’s a Family Affair – We’ll Settle It Ourselves!”. Then the stage parameters (and their specific) of the play “The Tableau of Family Happiness” are determined. As a result, the author of article comes to the conclusion that in the play “The Tableau of Family Happiness”, Ostrovsky appears as an established playwright, who faced the task of creating a Russian repertoire.
