- Annotation: In the article on the material of K. Zavoyko’s ethnographic essay, included in the collection of Kostroma Scientific Society for the Study of Local Territory, the names of peasants’ temporary dwellings - a significant thematic group of vocabulary, characterising the area of people’s material culture, included in the programme of the Lexical Atlas of Russian Folkish Patois. K. Zavoyko describes two types of temporary buildings found on the territory of Kostroma land and serving as shelter during field work: dwellings erected by peasants on the surface of the ground or underground; dwellings built above the ground. In the article the polysemous lexemes лабаз and подкур are considered from the point of view of their semantic and functional features as words characteristic of the Northern Russian, in particular Kostroma, and Central Russian dialectal usus. As a result of observations of the analysed lexemes, recorded both in dictionaries of the modern Russian literary language (as ethnographisms) and in regional dictionaries, conclusions are drawn that at present the studied lexical units are becoming obsolete, gradually moving into the passive fund of the national language, and this process is explained by the lack of demand for traditional forms of temporary dwellings in rural areas.
