Annotation: This article examines neologisms that have emerged in the English sanctions discourse in the context of modern geopolitical changes and economic sanctions. Topicality of the study is due to the growing role of language as a tool for shaping public opinion and political rhetoric in the context of global conflicts. The work includes a theoretical justification for the concept of neologism as well as its classification depending on the sources of origin and functional load in the language. Further, specific examples of neologisms, that have emerged as a result of the introduction of sanctions against various countries, are analysed, focusing on their semantic meaning and stylistic features. The analysis uses the method of content analysis which allows us to identify the frequency of use of neologisms and their distribution across various text genres – from official documents to media publications. Particular attention is paid to neologism influence on public opinion formation and to their role in manipulating consciousness.
Keywords: language, neologisms, online-dictionary, neologisation, thematic group, semantics, electronic media, sanctions discourse.
